The umbrella was working fine for me until the top part of the umbrella ripped off of the shaft. Because of that, it is now impossible to close it as the umbrella simply slides down the shaft when you pull on it because it is no longer connected to the shaft. Although this item has a lifetime warranty, the description I read said I had to pay to ship the umbrella to them, wait 5 weeks, and pay to have them ship me a new umbrella (which is basically the same cost as buying a new umbrella). I justifiably sent them an angry email about this, and I was informed that because my umbrella was so new, I was only required to send them the fabric strap used to close the umbrella and the tag inside of the umbrella in an envelope and they would send me a new umbrella within a week, paying for shipping.
The umbrella felt very sturdy and the ripping that occurred on mine seemed to come out of nowhere. I'm hoping my new umbrella lasts much longer (the reason I even bought this umbrella was to stop having to buy a new umbrella every 6 month).
